The Harvard Club has adopted a Stream! The Club has recently partnered with Cumberland River Compact and Metro Governement to be the 50th adopter in their Adopt-A-Stream Program! We are now the proud stewards of a 1-mile stretch of the Little Harpeth River accessible by Edwin Warner Park. While our piece of the stream is impressive and valuable to the community, it needs help to stay that way and live up to its new family name!
Please join us at the first stewardship activity of our two-year tenure to remove the litter that negatively effects our stream's beauty, the health of amphibians and insects that call it home, and our drinking water quality.
Did you know that the Cumberland River Basin comprises the third most biodiverse freshwater region in the world following the Mekong River Delta and the Amazon Basin?!?! The Adopt-A-Stream program provides a great opportunity to explore Middle Tennessee's natural beauty and endemic flora and fauna. The cleanup is open to Harvard alumni, affiliates, their families and their friends. (Children may participate with proper supervision by an adult and parental/guardian signature.)
Please click the link below to learn more and RSVP or email us anytime with inquiries about the program. Hope to see you there!
Get ready to Participate!
- Register! Please register for this free event for all members of your party so that we can provide adequate t-shirts, snacks, and refreshments. (Children may participate with proper supervision by an adult and parental/guardian signature.)
- Dress the part! Please wear comfortable closed-toe shoes or water shoes and clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. You are welcome to pick up litter along the greenway and on the banks or to wade through the shallow portions of the river. Should you choose to walk in the stream, you might want to wear waders/galoshes or bring a change of clothes.
- Equip yourself! Water will be available at the site, but please bring a water bottle to fill! Trash grabbers, gloves, and safety vests will be provided to those that would like them!
More information about the Metro Adopt-A-Stream program: This program started in 2007 with the goal of bringing awareness to the importance of our creeks and streams, improving water quality, reducing flood risk, and enhancing safety of the community. The program provides an opportunity for local businesses and civic groups to work together or separately to do their part in protecting and enhancing the watershed in which they live or work. By adopting a stream, we are making a difference in our community. Adoptions are for a period of 2 years and require at least two stream clean up per year. A sign acknowledging the adopting group and stream as well as supplies and trash removal are provided by Metro. The Metro Adopt-A-Stream program is facilitated by the Cumberland River Compact and includes all adoptions within Davidson county.
